I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

What do you do when a plumbing emergency arises? The very first thing is to ensure it's safe, and hopefully not getting even worse. Electricity and water do not combine safely, so if you need to, turn the mains switch off at the power panel.

While you are waiting for the plumber to arrive, clear away any important items close to the leak, and mop up any water or place a bucket to catch the drips. If you have turned the mains water off, switch off the hot water heating as well.
